How does mental health first aid training work?
Our training covers a range of common mental health conditions. Your managers and employees will learn how to:
- Spot the signs of mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety, or eating disorders
- Listen non-judgmentally and communicate with empathy
- Provide initial support in a crisis situation
- Guide a person toward appropriate professional help, such as a doctor, a therapist, or a confidential Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)
- Reduce stigma and promote a culture of openness around mental health
Once trained, your mental health first aider won’t diagnose or treat in their role, but they will be able to offer immediate, non-judgmental support, guide the person toward professional help, and ensure their safety.
What are the benefits mental health first aid training?
Improved employee wellbeing and morale
By creating a network of trained staff, you can demonstrate a commitment to mental health. This helps your employees feel valued and supported, which can lead to higher morale and engagement.
Reduced sickness absence
Early intervention is key. A mental health first aider can provide support at the start of a problem, which can prevent it from escalating into a long-term absence. This reduces costs associated with lost productivity and sick leave.
Risk management
With trained staff, your business can better manage mental health crises and provide a safer environment. This helps fulfil your duty of care and reduces the risk of legal and reputational damage.
Enhanced retention
A supportive work environment is essential for employee retention. When employees feel safe and cared for, they are more likely to stay with the company in the long term, which in turn lowers recruitment and training costs.
